Happy New Year! I woke up this morning to find the new Olympic Games logo for 2016 has been revealed:
I don’t envy the guy or gal who had the job of putting this together, and then launching it on the web to receive an onslaught of criticism. Graphic design is difficult, and for something that is going to be an emblem of a major world event… well… a lot of people are going to see it and a lot of people are going to hate it. Personally, I think just about anything is a home run compared to the 2012 logo:
Flashback to the early 90s gone horribly wrong. You might be saying to yourself… “it’s not that 90s… there’s no hot pink!”. Think again. And don’t even get me started on the London mascots. Terrifying.
Anyway, I think the 2016 logo is pretty cool. There was a time when I wanted to be a graphic designer, so I appreciate (and am more critical of) these things. If you haven’t yet, check out the Rio website: http://www.rio2016.com
First day back in Princeton… still on California time. Yuck. Have to run to the grocery store, unpack, do some laundry… great news though: started the very first of my Appalachian Trail education last night with A Walk in the Woods.
Long Live the Dream,

P.S. To the guy sitting next to me on the plane back from San Diego yesterday: Sorry I got up and left without saying goodbye. Even though we talked about you connecting to Columbus, I for some reason completely dismissed that and planned on catching you at baggage claim. Nice plan. Nice manners. I’m not usually that rude, so I apologize. Enjoy your time at home, and maybe I’ll run in to you someday in PB!
